Neighborhood

Villa Favorita is in a very quiet neighborhood with only a few neighbors, and no commercial activity. Snow is frequent but rarely an impedance in the Winter, and it seldom gets uncomfortably hot in the Summer. See "Getting around" for shopping, and also for a pleasant walk over nearby Rattlesnake Mountain Hill Road. (BTW, rattlesnakes haven't been in our area in many decades!)

Guest Access

Guests have access to all areas of the house with the exception of the basement, the garage, and the attic above the 3rd floor. Strolling around our 25 acres you'll find a vegetable and wildflower garden, a fire pit with a park bench and natural stone seating, a small outdoor swimming pool, a chicken coop, meadows (where you can pick blackberries, blueberries and raspberries in season) and pathways through woods and pine groves. As with most of New England we recommend covered shoes and socks to avoid ticks. You'll also notice a house at the far end of the blackberry field (at the beginning of the driveway) and a converted horse barn behind the main house, which are now occupied by 2 of our cohosts. Except for emergencies, please respect their privacy and first contact us by phone if you have any questions or need assistance with anything.

Find us

A few steps from the end of our driveway is a pleasant 20-minute walk over the South end of Rattlesnake Mountain to a beaver pond and deep woods. At the end of our long driveway walk left, go straight across Route 7, up Rattlesnake Mountain Hill Road and down to the far side. If you want to shop for groceries and other essentials, we recommend taking a right out of our driveway and following Devon Road to Lee, which has a good array of shops, restaurants and a large modern supermarket. Where Devon Road ends, take a left and you'll find downtown Lee at the bottom of the next hill. To the left are the ‘downtown’ shops; going straight takes you past a large pharmacy, convenience stores, gas stations, and underneath the Mass Turnpike is the Lee Outlets (straight and up the hill) and the supermarket (to the right). Downtown Stockbridge is much smaller but tends toward the more elegant, e.g. the Red Lion Inn (and the Lion's Den pub) and Nejaime's wine shop; there’s also a laundromat behind the Post Office. Take a left out of the driveway and another left at the corner of Route 7, then bear right at the bottom of the big hill about 2 miles down. To get to Lenox, take a right onto Route 7 from Devon Road; after about a mile you will pass the fields of High Lawn Farm. Near the top of this hill on the right is the road to High Lawn farm’s visitor center; just over the hill, also on the right, is the entrance to the Edith Wharton estate (“The Mount”). Soon after that will be a large intersection with a traffic light, where going straight will take you North to Pittsfield, Williamstown, Mass MOCA etc. But if you take a left and follow the winding road you will soon pass Canyon Ranch on the right, then Shakespeare and Company on the left, and on to downtown Lenox at the top of the hill.
